Pink Lady WAlk 5K Walk/Run

Since 2014, Pink Lady Walk has raised funds for 16 breast cancer survivors, a child with cancer, Hospice of Limestone County, Alabama, and the Patient Assistance Fund at The Southern Cancer Center in Huntsville, AL. Last year our recipients were a single mother of a small child, a senior member of our community who battled breast cancer for the second time, and the Patient Assistance Fund at The Southern Cancer Center in Huntsville, AL. Each recipient received $1,500.00. We also worked with local pharmacies in Limestone County, enabling Pink Lady Walk to credit four accounts (two at Limestone Drug Company and two at Athens Pharmacy). Each account received $250.00. Lastly, we provided $1,200.00 in emergency donations to community members facing economic hardships. Some of these hardships were a new breast cancer diagnosis and assisting with a shelter to prevent a medical crisis and homelessness. In addition to these accomplishments, Pink Lady Walk supplied cancer care packages to cancer treatment centers in Decatur, AL. We also donated funds to a local nonprofit that provides scholarships to underserved students in high schools in North Alabama.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, breast cancer is the most common cancer in women in the United States. Statistics provided by the American Cancer Society also state that Alabama is estimated to have 4500 new breast cancer cases this year; of those new cases, 720 people will die because of this deadly disease.
